Every once in a while, God pulls back the curtain and lets us meet someone whose name may not be widely known, but whose life carries a world-changing impact. One of those hidden heroes is Ethan the Ezrahite — a worship leader, a counselor, and a man so wise that Solomon’s wisdom was measured against his. He never sat on a throne, never commanded an army, never led a nation. Yet God used one song from Ethan to shape the theology and worship of generations.
That song is Psalm 89.
A Psalm That Reveals the Heart of God
In this psalm, Ethan gives us one of the most life-changing revelations in all of Scripture — not about David, and not about himself, but about God’s own commitment to His people. These are some of the most powerful “God-boasting-on-God” verses in the Bible. God is not talking about what David would do for Him… He is declaring what He will do for David.
“I have found My servant David.
I have anointed him with My holy oil.
I will steady him with My hand.
With My powerful arm I will strengthen him.”
(Psalm 89:20–21, NLT)
Look at the rhythm of God’s words:
- I found him.
- I anointed him.
- I will steady him.
- I will strengthen him.
This is God saying, “Let Me tell you what I do when I choose someone. Let Me tell you how I work in your life.” Psalm 89 is God boasting in His own ability — not our human effort — to carry out His purpose in us.
What God Did for David… He Will Do for You
Maybe today you feel shaky. Maybe the enemy has tried to convince you that you don’t have what it takes. Maybe the calling looks too big… the season too overwhelming… the fight too long.
Let these four divine declarations become your anchor:
- God found you. He sees you. He knows where you are. He has not overlooked you.
- God anointed you. What He placed on your life, no one can remove.
- God will steady you. When life shakes, His hand becomes your foundation.
- God will strengthen you. He gives power for every assignment He gives.
This is not David’s story alone. This is God’s pattern. This is what He does for every son and daughter who places their life in His hands.
Ethan: A Number Two Who Changed the World
Ethan never led the nation, but he shaped its worship. He never sat in the palace, but he influenced kings. He never sought the spotlight, but God entrusted revelation to him that still speaks to the world today.
One psalm — one song — from a man most people have never heard of… has changed history.
And here is the good news for you:
You do not have to be number one to change the world. You just have to be faithful to the place God has given you.
Ethan reminds us of something powerful:
You could have one song… one gift… one message… one act of obedience… that God uses to touch the world.
Let This Be Your Word Today
As you read Ethan’s psalm, receive these divine declarations for yourself:
- He found you.
- He anointed you.
- He will steady you.
- He will strengthen you.
What God began in you, He will finish. His faithfulness is “as enduring as the heavens.”
Your Call to Action
Let the life of Ethan encourage you today. You don’t need the title. You don’t need the spotlight. You don’t need the platform. God can take your one offering — your one song, your one act of obedience — and use it to change generations.
Just like Ethan.
If this encouraged you today, leave a comment, share it, or send it to someone who needs to know that God is steadying them and strengthening them right now.
“I have found him… I have anointed him… I will steady him… I will strengthen him.”
