“The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church.” — Tertullian
The Bible teaches that the shedding of righteous blood is never meaningless – in fact it carries a powerful spiritual significance perhaps unlike anything else mentioned in scripture.
From Abel’s blood crying out from the ground to the martyrs beneath the altar in Revelation, Scripture is clear: the blood of the faithful has a voice. It testifies before heaven and earth and God responds.
The Scriptural Pattern: Blood That Speaks, Land That Is Affected
Genesis 4:10–11 — “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground! Now you are cursed and banished from the ground, which has swallowed your brother’s blood.”
In the first homicide, God reveals that innocent blood is not silent. It cries out. The land itself is implicated.
Numbers 35:33 — “Do not pollute the land where you are. Bloodshed pollutes the land, and atonement cannot be made for the land on which blood has been shed, except by the blood of the one who shed it.”
Blood guilt defiles the land and demands justice.
Deuteronomy 21:1–9 — (The “unsolved murder” statute) The elders publicly seek atonement so the land will not bear the guilt of innocent blood.
Psalm 106:38 — “They shed innocent blood… and the land was polluted by blood.”
Jeremiah 7:6–7 — God warns that shedding innocent blood brings judgment on the people and their land.
From Abel to Zechariah to Stephen: The Righteous Slain Still Witness
Matthew 23:35 — Jesus says the generation will be held responsible “for the murder of all godly people of all time — from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah…”
Jesus affirms that the blood of the righteous leaves a moral charge on a people and a place.
Acts 7:54–60 — Stephen, the Church’s first martyr, prays, “Lord, don’t charge them with this sin!” as he is stoned.
Stephen’s blood did not stop the gospel; it multiplied it. Immediately after, the Church scattered and preached everywhere.
Acts 8:1–4 — “There was a great persecution… Those who were scattered went about preaching the word.”
Philippians 1:12–14 — Paul’s chains emboldened others to speak the Word “more courageously and fearlessly.”
Revelation 6:9–11 — The martyrs cry out under the altar for God’s justice; heaven hears them.
Hebrews 12:24 — Abel’s blood cries for justice, but Jesus’ sprinkled blood “speaks a better word” — mercy and forgiveness.
Charlie Kirk’s Martyrdom and the Witness of True Liberty
I believe with all my heart that Charlie Kirk died a martyr for his faith in Jesus Christ. Yes, he rallied young people to stand for liberty, but he made it clear that the greatest aspect of his mission was to point people to Jesus. True liberty is found only in the Lord.
2 Corinthians 3:17 — “For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
Charlie’s life was a signpost to that freedom. His death is not the silencing of a voice, but the multiplying of a movement.
The Seed Is Already Bearing Fruit
Jesus set our expectation:
John 12:24 — “Unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels — a plentiful harvest of new lives.”
Unprecedented Memorial Gathering
Charlie’s public memorial at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, yesterday drew tens of thousands — with several outlets citing totals near 90,000–100,000 when including overflow.
Erika Kirk publicly extended forgiveness to the accused shooter, modeling the very heart of the gospel.
A Surge of New Chapters and Engagement
Turning Point USA leaders say they’ve received a massive wave of new interest from students wanting to start or join chapters since Charlie’s assassination — with reported requests ranging from the tens of thousands to 60,000+, depending on date and outlet.
Forgiveness as a Weapon of the Kingdom
Erika’s Christlike call to forgive is not weakness; it was the defining moment of the service.
Her public forgiveness disarms hatred and keeps the focus on advancing the gospel.
Our Call: Boldness, Love, Forgiveness, and the Gospel
- Rise in boldness — speak the truth in love; do not shrink back. (Philippians 1:14)
- Walk in forgiveness — Stephen-like mercy seeds revival. (Acts 7:60)
- Engage spiritually — pray, fast, and stand firm; we fight principalities, not people. (Ephesians 6:12)
- Proclaim Jesus — the source of true liberty. (2 Corinthians 3:17)
Conclusion: Revival Is Here
Charlie’s blood has become seed. Like Abel’s, it cries out; like Stephen’s, it emboldens; and under the banner of Jesus’ blood, it points to mercy and awakening. I believe we will see the fruit — and I believe we have already begun to see the fruit.
