Most of the time when someone hides something about themselves, it’s because it’s something they’re ashamed of—something unflattering or unattractive. But when God hides something about Himself, it’s not weakness—it’s greatness. It’s His love, His character, and His faithfulness. He hides the best of Himself not to keep it from us, but to invite us into discovery.
“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.” — Proverbs 25:2
God’s Word is full of hidden treasure—not hidden from us, but hidden for us. The Bible isn’t just a collection of spiritual truths. It’s a declaration of who God says He really is—and who He says we really are.
Why This Matters More Than Anything
The greatest battle over your life is what you believe about God—and what you believe God believes about you. Because your perception of God will either draw you to Him or repel you from Him.
Jesus came not to change how God sees you—but to change how you see God. He came to reveal a Father who is 100% for you, not against you. A God who gave His life for you before the foundations of the world—“the Lamb slain before the foundation of the earth” (Revelation 13:8). God’s commitment to redeem humanity wasn’t a reaction. It was His eternal intention. That’s how much He values the family He created in His image.
David’s Love Affair With the Word of God
No one captured this heart of God quite like King David. David didn’t just believe in God—he was in love with Him. And that love was kindled through the Word.
Psalm 119—the longest chapter in the Bible—is not a legalistic rant about commandments. It’s the journal of a man in love. David found God’s heart in God’s Word. Over and over, he marveled at what he discovered. It wasn’t just promises—it was the Person behind the promises.
From the Psalms alone, David discovered over 300 attributes of God that made him love God more and more. Here are just a few:
- The Lord who is my Shepherd (and not my slave driver!)
- The Lord who is my Light and my Salvation
- God who is my Refuge and Fortress
- God who surrounds me with songs of deliverance
- God who inclines His ear to me
- He who is near to the brokenhearted
- He who forgives all my iniquities
- He who crowns me with lovingkindness
- He gives His angels charge over me
- He declares me innocent
- He takes away my fear
- He trains my hands for battle
- He lifts me out of the pit
- He restores my soul
- He prepares a table for me
- He anoints my head with oil
- He hears my cry
- He is for me
- He redeems my life from destruction
- His mercy endures forever
David wasn’t impressed by religion—he was overwhelmed by relationship. And that relationship was cultivated by what he found in the Word.
God’s Voice: The Greatest Voice in Your Life
There are always two voices speaking over your life:
- The voice of the Accuser, which condemns and drives you away from God.
- The voice of the Intercessor, Jesus, who draws you near and declares your value.
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” — John 10:27 NKJV
The Bible becomes more than a book when you realize it carries the voice of the One who made you. The greatest investment you can make in your life is spending time in the Word of God and discovering the God of the Word—hearing His voice as the loudest and clearest voice in your life.
God’s Deepest Secrets—Revealed by His Spirit
Paul describes this wonder in 1 Corinthians 2:7–16:
“…His plan that was previously hidden… But it was to us that God revealed these things by His Spirit. For His Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets…SO WE CAN KNOW THE WONDERFUL THINGS GOD HAS FREELY GIVEN TO US!”
The Holy Spirit isn’t just a comforter—He’s a revealer. He helps us understand God’s thoughts, which are revealed in His Word. And God’s thoughts toward you are good (Jeremiah 29:11) and they are many! (Psalms 139:17) and they are higher than your thoughts about yourself! (Isaiah 55:9) This isn’t about religion—it’s about revelation.
This Can Become Your Greatest Joy
Reading the Bible isn’t supposed to be a chore. It’s not an obligation, it’s an incredible opportunity. It can become your greatest discovery, the greatest transformation, and the greatest joy of your life.
When you discover the God of the Bible—not just the promises, but the heart behind the promises—everything changes.
You’ll discover:
- The God who knows your name
- The God who planned your redemption before creation
- The God who loves to be discovered
- The God who is on your side
- The God who chose you before you chose Him and devised ways to bring you back to Himself when you were separated from Him! (2 Sam 14:14)
Final Word: He’s Waiting to Be Found
The God you may not know is waiting for you—not behind a curtain, but in the pages of His Word. He’s not hiding from you—He’s hiding for you. He wants to be pursued, discovered, and loved.
And when you find Him, you’ll realize this:
He is far greater—and far better—and sees something greater in you and something for you than you ever imagined!
