100 “The Lord Is” Bible Verses That Will Change How You See God!

An open Bible at Psalm 23 with The LORD is my shepherd highlighted and the title 100 Bible Verses That Will Change How You See God!

I am so excited to share this study with you! Discovering who God really is is one of my favorite subjects in the world. I believe you are going to love these Scriptures—and I pray they will bless you, draw you closer to Him, and elevate what you believe about God and what you believe God believes about you!

One of the great Bible reading secrets I share in Pick Up the Bible and Let the Bible Pick You Up is this: Scripture, first and foremost, is a declaration of who God says He really is—and who God says we really are!

That is why I love studies like this. These “the Lord is” and “God is” statements are pure, unadulterated declarations from Scripture about His nature, His character, and His heart. We are letting His Word tell us who He is. As believers, we can receive these truths as invitations to know Him more deeply and draw closer to Him!

What you believe about God is the most important thing in your life! It will either draw you closer to Him or push you away from Him. And the voice that pushes you away from God is never the voice of God. That is why we need to let Scripture establish what we believe about His character and His heart toward us.

When you know He is faithful, you have a foundation for your faith. When you know He is merciful, you can approach Him with confidence. When you know He is your shepherd, you can trust Him to lead you through the season you are in.

This morning, as I was reading Psalm 103, I was reminded again of something that has become one of the great themes of my life and my book, Pick Up the Bible and Let the Bible Pick You Up: The Bible is God’s revelation of who He is.

Every time you open its pages, you have an opportunity to become better acquainted with the One who loves you.

David begins Psalm 103 by stirring his own heart to remember:

“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” — Psalm 103:2 (KJV)

He remembers God’s forgiveness, healing, redemption, lovingkindness, and provision. Then he writes something that stopped me:

“He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel.” — Psalm 103:7 (NLT)

Israel witnessed His mighty deeds; Moses came to know His character—the heart of the God behind those miracles. That is the kind of relationship I want for you! As you read His Word, you can discover His faithfulness, His goodness, and His love, and grow in your confidence to draw closer to Him.

God’s works reveal His power. His ways reveal His heart. And He invites us to know both.

Think of Moses asking God to show him His ways so that he might know Him (Exodus 33:13). Think of Abraham learning to trust the God who made him a promise. Think of Gideon discovering that God’s presence could carry him beyond his own sense of inadequacy.

The great men and women of faith came to know God’s character as well as His miracles and gifts. God prepared them for their assignments by revealing Himself to them. That is why I believe the greatest investment you can make in your life is spending time in the Word of God—establishing His Word as the greatest voice in your life. His Word is our source of revelation, and revelation brings elevation!

And God has a purpose for you, too. Your life matters to Him. Your family, your prayers, your service, and your obedience matter. As you grow in your knowledge of Him, you grow in your confidence to follow Him.

Look at the revelation of His character in the very next verse of Psalm 103:

“The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.” — Psalm 103:8 (KJV)

Read those words slowly. Let them shape the picture of God you carry in your heart.

Merciful. Gracious. Patient. Abundant in mercy.

This is who He reveals Himself to be.

That is why I encourage you to look for two little words as you read your Bible: “God is.” Or these three: “The LORD is.” What follows can become an anchor for your soul.

When you read, “The LORD is my shepherd,” pause and thank Him for His care. When you read, “God is faithful,” bring your concern to Him in prayer. When you read, “God is love,” receive that truth personally.

Let what God says about Himself shape what you believe about Him.

Below are 100 declarations drawn directly from Scripture. Read them prayerfully. Return to the full passages. Choose a few to carry with you today.

If you enjoyed 100 Names of God and Their Meanings in the Bible, consider this study its companion. His names reveal His character; these declarations let you see that character expressed in the words of Scripture.

How to read this list: These are 100 declarations drawn from Bible verses, not 100 different verses or an exhaustive count of every “the Lord is” statement. Some passages appear more than once because they reveal several attributes. Each entry labels its translation; bold type highlights the words to linger over. Brief excerpts are identified, and every reference links to its passage. Read the full context, including who is being addressed. Promises given in a particular setting reveal God’s character without making every detail a personal guarantee.

Translations include the World English Bible (WEB), King James Version (KJV), and selected short excerpts from the New Living Translation (NLT).
