As I was reading in the Psalms this morning, something stood out to me in a fresh and powerful way. Over and over again, David wasn’t just describing situations—he was declaring who God is:
“The LORD is…”
The LORD is my strength. The LORD is my shield. The LORD is my refuge. The LORD is my shepherd.
It reminded me afresh – this is what the Bible is doing from beginning to end. It is revealing God. Not just telling stories about Him, but declaring who He really is.
This is one of the most important discoveries I share in my book, Pick Up the Bible and Let the Bible Pick You Up. One of the great “Bible reading secrets” is understanding that Scripture is first and foremost a revelation of who God says He is to you – and who He says you are to Him.
As Tara-Leigh Cobble often says, every day in the Word we can find a “God shot”—a clear picture of His character. And when you begin to read the Bible through that lens, something changes. The Word stops feeling distant or difficult… and it starts drawing you closer.
Because the truth is, when you see God as He really is, it doesn’t push you away—it pulls you in.
The Bible is not merely a book about God. It is a book from God.
It is God’s self-revelation. It is His declaration of who He really is to you and who you really are to Him. Scripture was not given so you would have to guess what God is like. It was given so you could know Him as He has revealed Himself—through His own Word.
What you believe about God will either attract you to Him or repel you from Him. That is why the revelation of God’s character is so important. The enemy will lie about God. Circumstances will misrepresent God. Emotions will distort your view of God. But the Word of God cuts through every lie and reveals who He really is.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but His Word will never pass away.
From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is filled with declarations like these: “The LORD is…” and “God is…” These statements are not minor details. They are anchors for faith. They are revelations of God’s nature, God’s heart, God’s power, God’s faithfulness, and God’s nearness.
Below is a chronological list of 100 plus declarations from Scripture that reveal who God says He really is that I pray will be an encouragement and blessing to you:

Why These Declarations Matter
These are not random phrases scattered throughout the Bible. They are revelations. They are God telling you what He is like. They are Heaven’s answer to every lie, every fear, every accusation, and every distortion.
When the enemy says God is distant, Scripture says the LORD is near.
When your battle says God is weak, Scripture says the LORD is a warrior, a refuge, a fortress, and a stronghold.
When failure says God is finished with you, Scripture says the LORD is merciful, gracious, and abounding in love.
When confusion clouds your mind, Scripture says God is not a God of confusion, but of peace.
When loneliness whispers that you are on your own, Scripture says God is with us.
The Great Battle of Your Life
The greatest battle over your life is what you believe about God and what you believe God believes about you.
That is why the Word of God is the most important thing in your life. Through His Word, God reveals Himself. He shows you His heart. He unveils His character. He tells you who He really is—not who the devil says He is, not who your circumstances say He is, and not what your emotions may try to tell you in a moment of pressure.
The Bible is God’s self-revelation.
It is not just information. It is revelation.
It is not merely history. It is divine disclosure.
It is not just a book about God. It is a book from God.
Final Thought
If you want your life to be stable, anchor it in what God says about Himself. Read the Bible looking for the revelation of who He is. Fill your heart with His own declarations. Build your faith on what God says, not on what fear says.
Because when you know who God really is, it changes everything.
If this encouraged you, I want to invite you to go even deeper.
