“Then the Lord God called to the man, ‘Where are you?’”
— Genesis 3:9 NLT
Every great promotion in Scripture began with someone hiding from the greatness inside them.
From the very beginning, man has been hiding. Adam hid among the trees, afraid and ashamed after disobeying God. But notice—God didn’t leave Adam hidden. He came looking for him. He called him out, reminded him of who He was, and reminded Adam of who he was created to be.
That is the story of the entire Bible. Over and over again, God finds people in their hiding places, reveals Himself, and turns their hiding place into their calling place. The moment you stop running from God and start listening for His voice, your promotion is already in motion!
1. Adam — Hiding Among the Trees
Genesis 3:8–10
When Adam and Eve heard God’s voice, they hid among the trees. Yet God came walking through the garden, calling out, “Where are you?” He wasn’t asking for information—He was inviting restoration. The first hiding place in history became the first place of redemption.
2. Moses — From the Desert to the Deliverer
Exodus 3:1–6
Moses ran from Egypt and hid in the wilderness, but God met him in the burning bush. The backside of the desert became the front line of his destiny.
3. Gideon — From the Winepress to the Warrior
Judges 6:11–16
While hiding from the Midianites, Gideon threshed wheat in secret. Under the great oak of Ophrah, the Angel of the Lord called him “Mighty hero.” God met him in fear and called him into faith.
4. Saul — From the Baggage to the Beginning
1 Samuel 10:22
When Saul hid among the baggage, God revealed his location and brought him out before the people. God knows where you are—even when you’re hiding among the baggage of your past.
5. David — From the Cave to the Crown
1 Samuel 22:1–2
Hiding in the cave of Adullam, David was joined by the distressed, the indebted, and the discouraged. In that dark place, God began shaping a king.
6. Elijah — From the Cave of Fear to the Whisper of God
1 Kings 19:9–18
Elijah ran in fear and hid in a cave, but there God spoke in a still, small voice and recommissioned him. God’s whisper turned despair into direction.
7. Jonah — From the Depths to His Destiny
Jonah 1–3
Jonah hid from God’s call and found himself swallowed by a great fish. Yet in the depths, God heard his cry and gave him a second chance. Your lowest place can become your launching place.
8. Peter — From the Shadows to the Shepherd
John 21:15–17
After denying Jesus, Peter went back to fishing. But Jesus met him on the shore, restored him, and recommissioned him: “Feed My sheep.” His failure became the foundation of his ministry.
9. The Disciples — From Fear to Fire
Acts 2:1–4
Hiding behind locked doors after the crucifixion, the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit in that very same room. Their fear-filled hiding place became the birthplace of the Church.
God Will Find You
Wherever you are today—afraid, overlooked, or unsure—God will find you in your hiding place. He will remind you who He is and who you are. He will take you by the hand and bring you out into the light of His calling. Your promotion may not begin in a palace—it often begins in a hiding place.
Today’s your day to come out of hiding! God specializes in meeting people where they are and turning weakness into witness, hiding into calling, and fear into faith.
