Jesus Came to Change the Lens Through Which We See God!

Jesus came to change the lens through which we see God

Jesus came to change the lens through which we see God—from the God who is against us to the God who is 100% for us.

Today I’m excited for us to spend time with this truth from Pick Up the Bible and Let the Bible Pick You Up! I would love for you to watch this short message and then spend a few moments with these Scriptures.

The covenant you read through matters

The covenant you read the Bible through will determine the God you see. If you miss that, you can read the same Bible… and come away with two completely different conclusions about who God is. The New Covenant is not a continuation of the Old. It is not an upgrade of the Old. It is a replacement.

Scripture says it plainly: Hebrews 10:9 says in the King James Version: “Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.”

And again: “When God speaks of a ‘new’ covenant, it means he has made the first one obsolete. It is now out of date and will soon disappear.” (Hebrews 8:13, NLT)

And yet, this is exactly where many people—even sincere believers—get tripped up. They are living on a mixed drink—blending law and grace. A little performance… a little grace. A little pressure… a little peace.

But the result is confusion. God is not the author of confusion. Because as long as there is even a trace of “I have to earn this,” you will never fully rest in “Jesus has already done this.”

From “stay away” to “draw near”

The Old Covenant was the God who said, “stay away.” The New Covenant is the God who says, “draw near”—because of the blood.

At Mount Sinai, the message was clear: Exodus 19:12 says in the King James Version: “And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death.”

Distance. Fear. Separation. But under the New Covenant, everything changes. Listen to Hebrews 10:19 in the King James Version: “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus.”

Then verse twenty-two says: “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.”

And again: Hebrews 4:16 says in the New Living Translation: “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”

Nearness. Confidence. Access. This is not a small shift—this is everything. Because a covenant is the foundation—the bedrock—of your relationship with God.

Jesus reveals the heart of the Father

If you read Scripture through the wrong covenant, you will misinterpret God’s heart. But when you read through the lens of the New Covenant, everything comes into focus. “For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17, NLT)

Jesus didn’t come to add burden—He came to carry it. He didn’t come to increase condemnation—He came to remove it.

Again and again, Jesus corrected the lens. He revealed the heart of the Father.
